England midfielder, Declan Rice, has acknowledged that the team is experiencing heightened pressure, particularly due to the outstanding performances of several players during their respective seasons.
After a lackluster 1-1 draw against Denmark, Rice admitted they must handle this pressure better.
“I think there is probably more pressure now from the outside just because of the seasons some of our players have had,” said Rice. “If you look at the goals that our front four have scored this year, it’s over a hundred between them.”
He emphasized that this pressure comes with the territory of being considered among the best players globally and playing for England in a major tournament.
“But look, this is our job and this is what we have to deal with.
“At the end of the day it’s us, we’ve played in high pressure games, high pressure environments. It’s all about us on the pitch to be able to get it done,” Rice added.
Reflecting on their recent performances, including a narrow 1-0 victory over Serbia, Rice acknowledged the need for improvement.
“I think as a group, even just speaking after (the Denmark match) as a team, we know we can be collectively better and we’ll review it again and be ready for the next one,” he said.
With their final group stage match against Slovenia approaching, Rice affirmed their determination to finish on a high note. “Our objective is always to qualify, and I’m sure we can still do that,” he stated.
