Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea in their London derby on Sunday, marking their first Premier League win in four matches.
Stand-in striker Mikel Merino was the hero, nodding in the decisive goal to keep Arsenal’s slim title hopes alive as they chase league leaders Liverpool.
Merino found the net in the 20th minute, expertly directing a looping header past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from a Martin Odegaard corner.
With this result, Arsenal remain in second place, trailing Liverpool by 12 points.
Meanwhile, Chelsea sit in fourth, holding a narrow one-point lead over Manchester City and trailing third-placed Nottingham Forest by five.
Liverpool, who have also played 29 games, are set to face Newcastle United in the League Cup final later on Sunday.
