Leicester City ended their seven-game Premier League losing streak with a dramatic 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, extending Spurs’ winless run to seven matches on January 26.
The crucial result lifted Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side out of the relegation zone for the first time since Christmas, as they now sit 17th with 17 points.
Tottenham, however, remain in 15th place on 24 points, with mounting pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou as his side suffers its longest top-flight winless spell since a nine-match run in 2008.
Spurs have managed only five points from their last 11 matches, a record worse than every team in the league except Southampton, who sit at the bottom.
Despite the result, Spurs began the game strongly. In the 17th minute, Lucas Bergvall delivered a precise ball to Son Heung-min, who cut inside and unleashed a shot from outside the box, only for Leicester’s goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk to parry it for a corner. Earlier, both Richarlison and Pape Matar Sarr had tested the Polish keeper.
Tottenham’s dominance continued, and in the 31st minute, Dejan Kulusevski’s free kick was punched clear by Stolarczyk but landed for Son, whose cross caught the keeper off guard and struck the post.
Just two minutes later, Spurs finally broke the deadlock. Richarlison, battling back from an injury-ridden season, scored for the second game in a row.
The Brazilian expertly headed in a pinpoint cross from Pedro Porro, slipping between James Justin and Wout Faes.
Porro’s influence was clear; the Spanish right-back’s assist was his 23rd Premier League goal involvement since February 2023, putting him level with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the most by a defender in that time.
Porro shone in the first half, blending defensive strength—seven possession recoveries and four duels won—with his attacking threat. However, the second half proved more challenging for him and Spurs.
Leicester’s equalizer came just seconds after the restart, exposing a vulnerability in Porro’s positioning. The Foxes surged down his flank, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid delivered a low cross that Jamie Vardy converted for his 10th goal in 18 games against Spurs.
Leicester struck again just minutes later. Porro’s errant pass handed possession to the visitors, and after a swift sequence of passes, Bilal El Khannouss unleashed a curling effort from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Spurs hadn’t conceded two goals so quickly after halftime in a Premier League match since their clash with Liverpool in November 1997.
The hosts tried to rally, with Kulusevski coming close after a long ball from the back and a deflected Porro free kick glancing off Vardy’s head onto the crossbar.
Porro showed flashes of brilliance, weaving into the box in the 66th minute, but his decision to shoot from a tight angle rather than pass to better-positioned teammates wasted the opportunity.
Ultimately, Leicester held firm, condemning Tottenham to yet another disappointing result and increasing the scrutiny on Postecoglou as his side continues to falter.
