The scheduled arraignment of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over an alleged N6.9bn procurement fraud, has again been stalled.
The case was first stalled on August 17 following the absence of the second defendant in the case, Sa’adatu Yaro.
She was said to have taken ill and could not make it to court.
The president judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, adjourned the case till today, August 23 for the arraignment of the defendants.
However, according to The PUNCH, the matter was not listed on the case list of the court.
No explanation were given to journalists on why it was not listed, and both lawyers for both parties were absent in court.
Emefiele and his co-defendant, Yaro were not in court neither was any unusual security presence observed around the court premises.
According to Daily Post which quoted sources said to be in the know, the arraignment was shifted at the instance of the detained CBN Governor to enable all parties come into an agreement.
Emefiele’s lawyer Kehinde Akinlolu (SAN) was also said to have confirmed the shift in the arraignment, adding that a new date may likely be issued by the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf.
Meanwhile, the court has commenced proceedings on other matters on the cause list.
