The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the brutal killing of an elderly couple, Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo, in Bende Local Government Area.
The couple, both traders, were reportedly murdered in their home in Etiti Ulo on Tuesday night by unknown assailants.
According to The PUNCH, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, verified the incident, stating, “Yes, we received the report yesterday at Bende Divisional Headquarters.
The crime scene has been visited, exhibits recovered, and the bodies deposited at the mortuary. Investigation is ongoing.”
Reacting to the shocking event, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, strongly condemned the killings. He described the act as “horrific and senseless” and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.
Through his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to justice.
“The brutal murder of Mr. Jacob Udo and his wife is an affront to humanity. No grievance or dispute can justify such violence,” Kalu said.
He further called on the community to remain calm and avoid reprisal attacks, stressing, “While we understand the pain and emotions surrounding this tragedy, we must avoid actions that will escalate tensions. Violence will only breed further division and suffering.”
Authorities have reassured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.
