An Ekiti State High Court has convicted Ojo Ayegbusi of raping a 15-year-old girl and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The incident occurred on November 11, 2020, in Ikole Ekiti, and the defendant was charged with rape.
According to The PUNCH, the prosecution, the victim was accosted by Ayegbusi while returning from school and was lured into his room where the crime was committed.
As stated in the charge, “The innocent survivor (victim) of the rape was coming from school when she was accosted by the defendant who lured her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her.
“She could not tell anybody of her nasty experience, but her father found out when the girl was rushed to hospital after she collapsed at home and blood was gushing out of her private parts”.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Julius Ajibare, prosecuted the case and called five witnesses and tendered three exhibits as evidence.
The defendant’s counsel, E O. Sunmonu, presented a defense and called one witness.
In his judgment, Justice John Adeyeye found the defendant guilty of rape beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
