Popular medical doctor cum social media influencer, Dr. Chinonso Egemba, better known as Aproko Doctor, has dismissed widely-believed assertions that beans is a big time protein food.
The average African, particularly, Nigerian child bred in Nigeria, have been made to believe that beans contains protein that could make them tall and robust.
Even more, it is a tradition in most Nigerian homes to have this supposed protein-giving food, beans, in whatever form for breakfast on Saturdays.
This belief has, however, been rendered incorrect as the healthy living advocate, Dr. Chinonso, stated that beans is more of a fiber-giving food than protein.
Continuing, he added that melon soup better known as ‘egusi’, contains an unbelievable amount of protein compared to beans.
“Egusi has more protein than beans. Way more. Yet we all believed in primary school that beans won the protein award,” he revealed.
Highlighting the benefits of consuming beans, he said that while beans primarily contains fiber and not protein, every healthy diet should contain fiber.
He said, “But when it comes to fiber. Beans have it, and if you want a healthy diet, fiber should be a part of it.”
According to him, fiber “Helps digestion, and blood sugar levels. Even help you lose weight.”
He additionally advised that it is best to choose meals carefully with understanding of what these meals contain, possibly through the help of a dietician especially for people with illness or body goals.
“So choose your meals carefully and if you have a condition or a goal, best speak with a dietitian.”
Recall that Aproko Doctor recently disclosed how he almost lost his eyesight following his diagnosis of a rare brain tumor.
