The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has successfully arrested six individuals suspected of involvement in internet-related fraud in Akwa Ibom State.
This operation, which took place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, along the Calabar-Itu road, was conducted as part of a sting operation based on credible intelligence connecting the apprehended individuals to suspected internet-related activities.
The commission’s acting head of media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, made the announcement in a statement made public on Monday.
He stated that the EFCC’s efforts to combat cybercrime and related fraudulent activities remain ongoing, with these recent arrests serving as a testament to the agency’s commitment to curbing internet fraud across the nation.
According to him, the suspects include Udenze Benjamin, Godwin Atike, Emmanuel Francis, Adebe Oluwademilade, Anietie Brownson, and Sabastin Obioma.
He added that after the inquiry was complete, they would be charged in court after several items, including phones and laptops, were found on them.
“Operatives of the EFCC have arrested six suspected internet fraudsters along the Calabar-Itu road in the Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State following intelligence. Some items recovered from them include phones and laptops.
