A former minister of power, Sale Mamman, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission operatives in connection with an alleged N22 billion fraud.
The Punch reported that reliable sources have claimed that the former minister was imprisoned at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters after being arrested early on Wednesday.
The arrest is reportedly related to the Commission’s ongoing inquiry into claims of corruption in the management of various power projects.
Mamman has been accused of conspiring with Ministry employees in charge of the accounting for the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects in order to divert N22 billion, which they then divided among themselves.
Millions of naira and dollars have been confiscated, and the investigations have also turned up properties in Nigeria and abroad linked to the accused.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari appointed Mamman, a Taraba native, in August 2019. Mamman was fired exactly two years later, in 2021.
