Operatives from the Sokoto Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have apprehended 13 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Sokoto State.
In an official statement released by the EFCC on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), the commission confirmed that the suspects were arrested on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in the Gidan Yaro and Dandima areas of Sokoto, following intelligence reports on their involvement in cybercrime.
“Operatives of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested thirteen suspected internet fraudsters in Sokoto, Sokoto State,” the statement read.
The EFCC revealed that all the suspects claimed to be students of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto. “They were arrested based on actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet-related offences,” the statement added.
The commission further disclosed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will face charges in court once the investigations are complete.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the EFCC noted.
