The Edo State Government has disclosed that it will formally dedicate the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy to the former governor of the state on the occasion of his 84th birthday on August 12, adding that it will not only immortalise his legacy in his lifetime but also serve as a celebration of his values, ethos, and unwavering commitment to human service.
This was made known by the Director General of JOOPSA, Imuwahen Ajoonu, on Wednesday, saying that the launch of the centre on the birthday of the former governor is a milestone event that showcases a significant step towards the advancement of human capital development within the Edo State Public Service.
She disclosed that the academy was established by the state government in February 2022 with a strategic intent to foster accelerated human capital development within the state public service.
Ajoonu observed that the decision to name the academy after Oyegun goes beyond immortalising his legacy during his lifetime but also serves as a celebration of his values, ethos, and unwavering commitment to creating public value and institutionalising excellence in public service.
She said, “JOOSPA has been in existence since February 2022, but the state government will officially dedicate the academy to a former governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, on August 12, who the centre is named after. He clocks 84 on the same day.
“This milestone event marks a significant step towards the advancement of human capital development with the Edo State Public Service. The academy was established by the state government with the strategic intent of fostering accelerated human capital development within the state public service.
“Under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, the administration’s commitment to this objective is exemplified by the construction of a world-class training centre.
“As we embark on the journey to empower and equip our public service with the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities, we believe that JOOSPA will play a pivotal role in driving positive change and fostering a culture of excellence in public service,” she added.
