The management of Glorious Vision University in Ogwa, Esan West local government area of Edo State have announced a 50 percent reduction on tuition for students of Mathematics, Physics and Statistics at undergraduate level and 100 percent tuition free for those studying Religious Studies and Philosophy.
According to the school management, the move was towards encouraging the development of technology and produce more religious leaders.
Leadership reported that the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Babatunde Idowu, stated this during the unveiling activities marking the 8th graduation of ceremony of the university.
He said, “The proprietors felt that as part of their contribution towards the development of the nation, they can afford to encourage some people to go to the university and also encourage technological development.
“Most of our students nowadays don’t want to study physics, mathematics, or statistics; most of our students want to go into social sciences as a way of motivating them, that idea of 50 percent discount came to be.
“The church also wants to train pastors and religious leaders so they want to give opportunities to people as a furtherance of evangelism to study these courses for free.”
The VC stated that the institution, formerly known as Samuel Adegboyega University and owned by The Apostolic Church, had since its inception, graduated 670 undergraduates.
“And by the grace of God, this year we are producing 101 with seven (7) graduating with First Class honours, 33 with Second Class (Upper Division), 46 with Second Class (Lower Division), 7 with 3rd Class and 4 Postgraduates Justas.” He added.
Highlighting the accolades of the institution, the vc said the school had continued to maintain high academic standards emerging recently as the best among the privately-owned universities in the South-South.
He also pointed out that, “The change in the name was necessitated by the burning desire by the proprietors, The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territory, to go back to the name that was divinely given to Church through prophesy in 2005.
“Since the first NUC accreditation in November 2014, all the programmes of the university have continued to enjoy full accreditation status till date.
He disclosed that management had applied to the NUC to approve the commencement of Ph.D. in all the programmes in the three colleges that had produced Master Degree graduates, namely: management sciences; humanities and social sciences and basic and applied sciences.
