The Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has charged his troops to remain loyal to constituted authority and should not be distracted in their bid to get rid of all criminal groups in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that he made this charge at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri when he hosted troops of North East Operation HADIN KAI to a luncheon to mark Easter.
Yahaya who was represented by Theatre Commander Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, Yahaya said the event was in accordance with the tradition of celebrating with personnel in the frontline during festivities.
The COAS maintained that Easter is of great spiritual importance to Christian faithful worldwide because it’s a season of love, hope and prayers to Almighty God.
Yahaya stressed that the 2023 celebration was special as it coincided with the Muslim Holy Month of Ramadan.
He hailed the officers and soldiers for making concerted efforts to combat the numerous security challenges confronting the nation.
“I am indeed proud of you all and want to charge you to continue to remain focused, disciplined and loyal to constituted authority.
“We must continue to ensure that every criminal element and group in the country is completely eliminated,” NAN quoted him as saying.
Lt.-Gen Yahaya praised the troops for their professionalism during the general elections, stating that they maintained good conduct while discharging their duties.
Yahaya then reassured the commitment of the Army to continue to work with sister security services and other organisations in the discharge of its responsibility.
