The Ekiti State Police Command on Sunday confirmed that the abducted school pupils of Apostolic Faith Church Primary and Secondary School in Emure Ekiti have been released.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson of the command, Sunday Abutu said the pupils and their teachers were rescued around 1 am on Sunday.
He however said that the abductors allegedly killed the driver.
He said, “They have been rescued around 1 am today. Unfortunately, we lost the driver who was suspectedly killed by the abductors.
“The Operation is still ongoing we want to ensure that those behind the abduction and killing of the driver are brought to book. From the one of these incidents we have been on out toes, we have deployed our rescue operatives to that axis.”
Abutu however said he could not confirm if any ransom was paid. “The issues of ransom, we are not aware any ransom been paid. We are only aware of efforts of the police and other security agents and even locals in the rescue, he said”.
Gunmen had on Monday, January 29 2024, abducted the pupils and three teachers of Apostolic Faith Church Primary and Secondary School, a private school in Emure, headquarters of Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The Ekiti State Government confirmed the abduction on Tuesday, January 30, saying the school bus driver was also kidnapped, bringing the total of abductees to 10.
