The Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, has reported the arrest of a motorist, Lucky Omomeyen, for allegedly attempting to hit one of its officers after being apprehended for violating traffic rules.
State Sector Commander, Paul Okpe, disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, stating that the incident occurred on April 19, 2024, with the driver arrested six days later.
He said the driver, operating a Toyota Camry, was signaled to stop by FRSC operatives on patrol, but instead of complying, he tried to hit the officer with his car.
To avoid being struck, he said, the officer leaped and clung onto the Toyota Camry.
Okpe explained that the officer was conducting a routine patrol at Ramat Park when the incident unfolded.
“Instead of him to park properly but because he had ulterior motives, he drove with the official hanging on his bonnet for some distance before the officer was able to get down after the vehicle slowed down for traffic, but the driver was able to escape.
“The driver was said to have manoeuvred his vehicle and escaped arrest but was later arrested several days after the incident”, he said.
The Sector Commander also mentioned that the arrested driver has been handed over to the police and has since been charged to court.
