The Jigawa State Government has disclosed that ten people have died as a result of diphtheria in the state.
This was made known by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Salisu Mu’azu, while confirming this in an interview with journalists on Friday.
Mu’azu disclosed that the state has recorded 91 cases of diphtheria in 14 Local Government Areas in the state.
He said, “Ten persons with suspected cases of diphtheria disease died in Jigawa State.”
The Permanent Secretary confirmed that two more samples from Kazure and Jahun have been taken to Abuja for testing.
Dr Mu’azu pointed out that the state government is making arrangements for the administration of vaccines while also making efforts to curtail the spread of the disease from neighbouring states.
Reports revealed that over 320 children have died of diphtheria disease in neighbouring Kano State.
