Dethroned 15th Emir Aminu Ado Bayero has returned to the ancient city of Kano.
Bayero was dethroned as Emir on Thursday after the state house repealed a 2019 emirate law, which had previously been used to oust Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in 2020.
Sanusi was reinstated as Emir on Friday by Kano governor Abba Yusuf, during a colorful ceremony at the government house.
Bayero had been in Ogun state as the intrigues leading to his removal escalated this week.
The aircraft carrying the deposed Emir landed at Aminu Kano International Airport around 4:30 am.
Bayero was immediately greeted by supporters who chanted a verse from Surah Al-Fatihah in the Holy Quran.
“You (alone) we worship, and you (alone) we ask for help (for each and everything),” they chorused.
Bayero’s cavalcade then sped through the lit roads of the city, purportedly heading to the palace.
