The operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a teenager identified as Ade Segun, for faking own kidnap with the intention of defrauding his parents the sum N2 million.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on his Twitter handle on Friday.
It was said that Segun connived with his friends , Precious and Nonso kidnap to swindle his parents of the said amount.
According to PPRO, the 17-year-old suspect’s parents had reported the case at one of the police stations in Warri, where one of the female officers was briefed to play along in paying the ransom.
Edafe said it was in the process of paying the ransom that undercover police operatives nabbed the one sent to pick the ransom and the two others.
“The suspect, Ade Segun, planned his own kidnap alongside two of his friends, Precious and Nonso, they called Ade’s parents and demanded the sum of #2,000,000.
“The parents reported at the police station in Warri, where a woman police played along, pretending to pay the ransom money.
“When the undercover policemen got to the location, they laid ambush and one of them, Precious, came to pick the money.
“He was rounded up and arrested. He took them to the hideout where Ade and his other friend were arrested and confessed that it was all planned,” DSP Edafe narrated.
Kidnapping has become a lucrative in recent times that enticed many young men with craze for sudden wealth getting more involved by the day.
