Delta State Government, on Wednesday, received the license for the Delta Special Economic Zone, from the Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority.
This was revealed in a statement issued by the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, via his Twitter handle @IAOkowa and the official Twitter handle, of the Peoples Democratic Party @OfficialPDPNig.
According to him, the state has prioritized the establishment of the zone, to add value to Delta State’s Internationally generated revenue, and also attract the investment needed for the development of the state.
The governor, who described the zone as a vital part of the economic development, said, the establishment of the special economic zone, is necessary for Delta State, to effectively harness the economic benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
“As part of our efforts to position businesses in Delta State to benefit from the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), earlier today, we received the license for the Delta Special Economic Zone from the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA).
“During my speech at the event, I highlighted the enormous potential of the Special Economic Zone status in creating tens of thousands of new employment opportunities and leveraging our existing resources to fuel the economic growth of our state and improve the lives of our people.
“This is a significant milestone that sets us on the path towards greater prosperity, and we are determined to seize this opportunity to drive Delta State to even greater heights,” he wrote.
