The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has outlined specific conditions for the nationwide protest scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024, to be held within the state.
CP Abaniwonda has requested that protest organizers submit comprehensive details about their planned activities.
The required information includes the proposed locations and routes for the protest, the expected duration, the names and contact information of the protest leaders and organizers, and measures to prevent any potential hijacking by criminal elements.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of cooperation between organizers and participants to ensure a peaceful protest, free from disruption by unscrupulous individuals.
He assured residents that the police would deploy all necessary resources to protect the community during and after the protest and to maintain order throughout the state.
“Those participating in any form of protest are therefore advised to ensure that they maintain the sanctity of public gathering and lawful assembly and avoid acts capable of leading to a breakdown of law and order in the state,” CP Abaniwonda stated.
To prevent any disruptions, he ordered a significant police presence across the state and mentioned that undercover operatives from the State Intelligence Department have been assigned to monitor the protest and identify any individuals attempting to incite violence.
