The Delta State government organized a three-day workshop for drivers to strengthen their capacity in order to improve their performance on the road, with the drivers’ well-being being the major focus.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the training was organized in Asaba for drivers, mechanics, and work superintendents employed by the state public service under the theme “Accident prevention measures and drivers health.”
The state’s transport commissioner, Chief Mike Okah, declared that training and retraining were essential to the growth of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration’s human capital.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Gabriel Fuludu, emphasized the necessity for drivers to have routine medical examinations, attributing their infrequent hospital visits to their bosses’ hectic schedules.
The participants received instruction on the civil service norms and regulations, as well as tips on how to always be cordial and sincere with their supervisors.
Participants were also encouraged to always avoid activities that could cause emotional and psychological stress by Mr. Promise Sapele, who lectured on “Stress Management,” noting that such activities could be harmful to their health and their careers.
The drivers were tasked by the Director of Mechanical Engineering Services, Mr. Emmanuel Akpojotor, to repay government favors by being devoted, diligent, and respectful of their superiors in the performance of their jobs.
