The Asagba of Asaba, Delta State, Obi Joseph Edozien, has passed away at the age of 99.
The revered monarch joined his ancestors on Wednesday, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
According to The PUNCH, a palace source, who is one of the monarch’s top aides, confirmed his death to our correspondent.
The source familiar with the workings of the palace, however, said there would be no public statement on the development until after seven days.
“It is true that the Asagba is no more. But we respect our tradition so much. Our tradition forbids the official announcement of the monarch’s death before seven days,” the source said.
The news of the Asaba’s demise is coming hours after reports of the death of a former federal lawmaker from the state, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, on Wednesday.
