The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has launched a joint monitoring team to oversee military operations in the South-South region, aiming to enhance security and increase oil production.
A statement on Wednesday by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, outlined the team’s role in optimising the efforts of the military and security agencies in the oil-producing area.
The statement read, “The CDS emphasised that the monitoring teams’ primary role is to enhance military and security operations in the region. Their objective is to assess performance and report back to commanders for improvement. He noted the collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies, which has significantly boosted daily oil production.”
General Musa highlighted the Defence Headquarters’ aim to foster a collective effort in fulfilling constitutional responsibilities without assigning blame.
Gusau added that the CDS urged the team to work towards increasing Nigeria’s daily oil production to 2.2 million barrels.
The team is expected to coordinate with the Joint Task Force, South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, other security agencies, and stakeholders in the oil sector to ensure smooth operations.
“The team is aware of the mandate given by President Bola Tinubu to increase oil production to 2.2 million barrels per day by December. Securing critical national infrastructure and collaborating with oil companies to maximise production are essential to this task,” the statement continued.
The Chairman of the Defence Monitoring Team, Major General Jamiu Jimoh, acknowledged the support received from troops and other security agencies in the region. He pledged that the team would work diligently to achieve the target of 2.2 million barrels per day.
