Nigerian singer, Dammy Krane, has been released from police custody nearly a week after his arrest for defaming his colleague, Davido.
Social media influencer, Verydarkman, has appealed to music icon Davido, David Adeleke, to secure the release of fellow artist Dammy Krane from police custody, emphasizing that Davido is not an oppressor.
VDM claimed that Dammy Krane’s arrest and detention were orchestrated by Davido.
He made these assertions in an Instagram post on Wednesday, where he shared a story about a visit to a police station.
In the video, VDM explained that he went to the station to express his gratitude to the officers who had been supportive of his work.
During his visit, a passerby reportedly mentioned that a celebrity with dreadlocks was being held in one of the cells.
Curious, VDM said he inquired further and discovered that the individual in question was none other than Dammy Krane.
Addressing Davido directly, VDM then stated, “David Adeleke, Davido, you be my brother. You be my guy. And one thing I know about you is that you’re a jolly good fellow and you’re not an oppressor.
“I know you have been pushed to the wall, but you aren’t an oppressor.”
The situation began when, in the days leading up to Davido’s wedding, Dammy Krane made a startling accusation, alleging that Davido was getting married only because his fiancée, Chioma, had caught him cheating.
Dammy Krane even went as far as to label Davido a murderer, a claim that quickly drew widespread attention and legal repercussions.
In response to these serious allegations, Davido’s legal team swiftly issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Dammy Krane, demanding that he retract his statements from all social media platforms.
Tey also warned him to desist from making any further defamatory comments against Davido, threatening legal action if he failed to comply.
However, Dammy Krane’s refusal to back down led to his arrest last week, where he faced the prospect of criminal charges for defamation and slander.
The tension between the two artists, which had been simmering for years, seemed to be reaching a boiling point.
Their feud dates back to previous disputes, particularly Dammy Krane’s accusation that Davido owed him money. Davido had countered these claims by reminding the public of the support he had provided Dammy Krane over the years, including offering him accommodation when he was in need.
Despite this, Dammy Krane remained adamant that the financial debt had not been settled, repeatedly airing his grievances on social media and accusing Davido of being a habitual debtor.
Fortunately for Dammy Krane, Davido decided to drop all charges, leading to his release from custody.
In a video that surfaced online shortly after his release, Dammy Krane made his first public statement, expressing gratitude to his close ally, Very Dark Man, whom he referred to as his brother.
He acknowledged that many netizens might be surprised by this turn of events and hinted at a possible reconciliation between himself and Davido.
Reflecting on the events that led to his arrest, Dammy Krane admitted that he had crossed a line with his words.
“I know there were many words that ought not to be said, I apologize for this Tagbo-death allegation and all that,” he said, referencing his previous controversial statements.
Despite the harsh words exchanged, Dammy Krane emphasized that Davido is still his brother, and expressed hope that they would find common ground to resolve their differences.
This latest chapter in their long-standing feud underscores the deep-seated tensions between the two artists.
While Dammy Krane’s public apology and Davido’s decision to drop the charges suggest a potential thawing of relations, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to fully mend their fractured relationship.
For now, Dammy Krane’s release marks a temporary end to the legal drama, but the underlying issues between him and Davido continue to cast a shadow over their interactions.
As both artists move forward, the public will be watching closely to see if they can finally put their differences behind them and move on from this turbulent chapter in their relationship.
