The Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State chapter has begun an indefinite strike following the kidnap of one of its members, Prof. Ekanem Ephraim.
Prof. Ephraim was kidnapped on July 13.
She was attending to patients in her clinic in Calabar when she was abducted.
The total withdrawal of services was contained in a communique issued after its emergency meeting in Calabar on Sunday evening.
The state Chairman of NMA Dr Felix Archibong, the Secretary, Dr Freeman Egbe, and other members of the executive endorsed the communique.
The union ordered members “to embark on total and indefinite withdrawal of medical services effective immediately in solidarity with our member still in the hands of her abductors.
“This withdrawal of medical services involves all hospitals in Cross River State, including Federal, State, Private, Mission, and cottage hospitals.”
