A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a bail variation to five individuals accused of participating in #EndBadGovernance protests.
According to DailyPost, the protesters, previously held on a N10 million bail each, had their bail amount reduced to N5 million by Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday.
The court’s initial bail terms had been difficult for the defendants to meet, prompting their legal representatives to seek a reduction.
The defense counsel explained that securing sureties with landed properties in Abuja was challenging for some of the protesters. In response, Justice Nwite granted a reduction in the bail amount and modified the conditions.
Under the new terms, each protester is required to present one surety, who must be a close blood relative, such as a parent or another family member, residing within the court’s jurisdiction. If neither parent is available, another relative may act as the surety.
The protesters face six charges, including treason, conspiracy, incitement to mutiny, and attempting to incite public disorder in Nigeria.
The case stems from their alleged attempt to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
