The Federal High Court in Abuja has rescheduled the judgment date in the case challenging the appointment of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
According to The PUNCH, the new date for the ruling is set for September 23, 2024.
Previously, the court was expected to deliver its judgment on September 18, 2024. However, the case was not included in the court’s cause list on that date. An inquiry revealed that the judgment was not yet ready, prompting the court registrar to notify the involved parties of the new date.
A court spokesperson confirmed, “We have informed the parties involved of the development. The new date for the judgment is September 23.”
The suit, filed by the North Central APC Forum under the leadership of Saleh Zazzaga, challenges the legality of Ganduje’s appointment as APC Chairman.
The plaintiffs, represented by counsel Benjamin Davou, argue that Ganduje’s appointment contravenes the APC’s constitution, which mandates that the Chairman should come from the North Central geo-political zone.
The plaintiffs, in their suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, allege that Ganduje’s appointment breaches Article 31.5(1)f of the APC constitution and exceeds the authority of the party’s National Executive Committee
They seek an order to prevent Ganduje from acting as APC Chairman and request that the Independent National Electoral Commission not recognize any actions taken by the APC since Ganduje assumed office on August 3, 2023.
The suit names Ganduje, APC, and INEC as the respondents.
