The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Commander of the IGP Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari.
The court’s decision, announced on Wednesday, allows Kyari a two-week period to return home and complete his mother’s burial rites, following her recent passing.
Kyari’s temporary release precedes the hearing of a bail application set for Friday, May 31, as indicated by court documents.
Arrested on February 14, 2022, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kyari was subsequently suspended by the Police Service Commission along with two senior police officers, Sunday Ubua and James Bawa.
The suspension stemmed from their involvement in a cocaine deal linked to the deputy commissioner of police.
“The Police Service Commission has suspended assistant commissioner of police, ACP Sunday Ubua and assistant superintendent of police, ASP James Bawa from the exercise of the powers and functions of their respective Offices with effect from Monday, 14th February 2022,” the PSC said in a statement.
Kyari has been persistently seeking bail, with his lawyer emphasizing the bailability of his case.
