The Actors Guild of Nigeria has deleted a post claiming that popular Nigerian actor, Pope Odonwodo, better known as Junior Pope, is alive.
The news of Pope’s reported death went viral on social media and other news platforms after he reportedly drowned alongside three others while shooting a movie in Delta State.
A filmmaker Sam Olatunji, had earlier announced the news of his death on Wednesday on social media, stating that the actors tragically died in a boat mishap.
Taking to his Instagram page, Olatunji wrote, “Four actors including Jnr Pope fell into Anam River on their way to a location and their bodies have been recovered.
“What a sad day for Nollywood. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
Meanwhile, in another video shared on social media, a resuscitation attempt on Pope’s body was seen, after a first video initially showed him seemingly lifeless as he was brought out of the body of water
The Actors Guild of Nigeria debunked the news with a post stating that Junior Pope is not dead, but receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Asaba, Delta.
As of the time of filing this report, the AGN has deleted the post, leaving Nigerians in a state of confusion regarding the status of the father-of-three.
Attempts to reach AGN president, Emeka Rollas, have proved abortive.
