Como achieved a historic milestone by securing its first Serie A victory in over 21 years, triumphing 3-2 against Atalanta in a rescheduled match on Tuesday evening.
This match marked a significant moment for the newly promoted team, as they celebrated their first win in Italy’s top flight since May 2003.
The victory was fueled by impressive second-half performances from Gabriel Strefezza and Alieu Fadera, alongside an unfortunate own goal from Atalanta’s Sead Kolasinac.
Atalanta, having drawn 0-0 with Arsenal in the Champions League just days prior, faced their third defeat of the season.
Originally scheduled for Monday night, the local derby was postponed by 24 hours due to heavy rainfall that left the Bergamo pitch waterlogged, adding an element of anticipation to the clash.
Atalanta opened the scoring in the 18th minute. After a corner kick was cleared, Davide Zappacosta seized the opportunity to volley the ball into the bottom left corner from just outside the box, putting the hosts ahead.
However, Como responded swiftly, leveling the score just 20 seconds into the second half.
A well-coordinated move saw Sergi Roberto backheel a clever pass from Ignace Van der Brempt to Strefezza, who unleashed a powerful shot into the far bottom corner.
Como continued to gain momentum and completed a remarkable turnaround in the 54th minute.
Nicolás Paz’s effort took a significant deflection off Kolasinac, leaving Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi wrong-footed as the ball found the back of the net.
The visitors extended their lead just four minutes later, with Fadera capitalizing on a long ball from Paz. He skillfully maneuvered past Atalanta captain Marten de Roon before finding the far bottom corner with a precise shot, putting Como in control.
In a dramatic finish, Atalanta was awarded a penalty with the last kick of the match when Alberto Dossena fouled Vanja Vlahović deep in stoppage time.
Ademola Lookman stepped up to convert the penalty, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome, sealing a memorable victory for Como as they celebrated their long-awaited return to winning ways in Serie A.
