Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has emphasized that his team must continue improving, despite securing a 2-0 victory over Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali on Friday.
The match, a crucial fixture in the matchday 5 round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, saw Nigeria claim all three points.
However, Chelle, speaking at the post-match press conference, acknowledged Rwanda’s quality and insisted that his squad still had areas to work on ahead of their next game against Zimbabwe in Uyo, Cross River State, on Tuesday.
“I just want to say it was a difficult game because Rwanda is a good side. I know the coach, he is a good coach, we made a great game too.
“I am so happy and proud of my players, my guys, and the Nigerian people,” Chelle stated.
The Malian tactician revealed that his team had put in significant effort over the past week, gathering information through extensive video analysis and two intense training sessions to prepare for the encounter.
“I think the victory or the win is normal because in the first half they had only one chance to score.
“We keep the ball in the 2nd half. We played two to three systems.
“I am happy now because this is just one game. We have some weaknesses and some strengths, my job is to think about the game project,” he added.
With Nigeria set to take on bottom-placed Zimbabwe next, Chelle remains focused on fine-tuning his squad for a stronger performance.
