The administration of Chrisland International High School in Lagos has deleted their post expressing regret over the passing of Whitney Adeniran, one of its students.
Punch Metro reports that the school was forced to delete the letter after a comment by the victim’s mother, Blessing Adeniran, after the apology was published.
The school wrote on Sunday in a now-deleted social media post, “We are sorry about Whitney’s passing, we are incredibly sad and grieved. We regret our actions and apologize to Whitney’s parents.
“We apologize to the neighborhood where our school is located and to Nigerians in general. It was a severe setback for Chrisland.
“We also apologize to Nigeria Media, another important stakeholder, for the painfully quiet signals. We have kept quiet because Whitney’s passing was so unexpected; rather than prancing about the media to get headlines, we chose to focus on reflection and moral uprightness. We saw it as essential to accord the Adeniran family as a whole the dignity of their privacy.
“The school does not intend to exhume Whitney’s body, contrary to what has been claimed,
“We have no such plan and reassure the public that we would not support anything that creates such offensive images and stops our dear daughter from getting resting.”
However, immediately Whitney’s mother, Blessing pointed out that the school had never truly loved her daughter because the interhouse sporting event still went on after her passing, the school removed the photo from its Instagram page.
Reacting to the deleted post, She wrote: “@Chrislandinsta why did you delete the post? Are you not sorry again? But you will still get what is coming for you.”
Chrisland said that they are still engaging the Adenirans as they want to be here to help them get through this difficult time. They also expressed their profound gratitude to everyone who has sincerely supported the family as well as the school through this difficult time.
on February 9, 2023, Whitney Adeniran passed away at Agege Stadium while competing in a school interhouse sporting event.
The 12-year-old had no known medical issues when the school bus picked her up for the event, according to the deceased’s father, Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran.
The post-mortem result from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital confirmed that the student’s cause of death was asphyxia and electrocution, according to a statement from the Lagos State Government on Thursday by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN.
