The death toll from the cholera outbreak in Lagos State has climbed to 24, with 35 confirmed cases among 417 suspected cases across 20 Local Government Areas.
The state Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, shared this update on his X handle, @ProfAkinAbayomi, Friday.
The information comes from the Lagos State Cholera Outbreak Situation Report, EPI Week 25, dated June 19, 2024.
Abayomi noted, “The situation report indicates 417 suspected cases, 35 confirmed cases, and a total of 24 recorded deaths. The graphs depict the distribution of cases across the 20 LGAs in the state.”
The report’s graphic illustration shows the peak of the outbreak on June 10, 2024, affecting Ajeromi, Kosofe, Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho, and Eti-Osa LGAs the most.
Abayomi urged Lagosians to maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene to mitigate infection risks.
On Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi, announced the increase in deaths to 21, with 401 suspected cases statewide.
Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti-Osa recorded the highest number of infections.
