Embattled Chinese Man, Geng Quangrong, who was alleged to have killed his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari, has pleaded not guilty.
According to Premium Times, the Chinese National denied charges levelled against him before a Kano High Court along Miller Road, presided over by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji.
Quandong, 47, was accused of murdering Ummukulsum, 23, in Janbalu quarters for reportedly refusing his hand in marriage and exploiting him.
He appeared in court on Thursday, accompanied by an interpreter, Guo Cumru, a Chinese national who translated the charges against him in Mandarin.
The defendant committed the offence on September 16 in the Janbulo Quarters Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, according to the prosecutor and attorney general of Kano State, Musa Lawan.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant fatally stabbed Ms. Buhari on the same date at around 9 p.m.
“We are ready and intend to present witnesses; we don’t want to take much time as the interpreter is from Abuja,” Mr Lawan said
According to him, the crime violated the terms of Penal Code Section 221(b), But the accused entered a not-guilty plea to the accusation.
The judge, Mr. Ma’aji, remanded the offender to a detention facility. He also postponed the hearing till the 16, 17, and 18 of November.
