China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd, a major Chinese construction company, has pledged to finalize the Abuja light rail project within eight months, aligning with President Tinubu’s administration’s focus on nationwide infrastructure development.
Vice President Kashim Shettima secured this commitment during a courtesy visit by CCECC Chairman, Mr. Jason Zhang, and members of his management team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President acknowledged CCECC’s significant role in Nigeria’s history, highlighting their pivotal contributions to the country’s landmark projects.
He commended the company’s dedication to Nigeria and Africa’s development.
“You have been in this country for 42 years. We have to commend you for all the beautiful initiatives and support over the years. We share a lot in common with the people of China, just as you have been with us through thick and thin. You have the financial firepower and the willingness to support Nigeria and other African countries without interfering in our local politics. This we appreciate a lot,” said Shettima.
Assuring CCECC that the current administration will maintain the existing relationship with the corporation and the people of China, the vice president stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian people still hold the Abuja rail project and others in high regard.
Earlier, CCECC Managing Director David Waig reaffirmed the company’s dedication to the project’s on-time completion by stressing that CCECC would “go above and beyond” and “leave no stone unturned” in its pursuit of a May 2024 completion date for the Abuja light rail line.
