Chelsea Football Club has strongly denounced the online racial abuse aimed at defender Wesley Fofana following their recent match.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Fofana shared some of the hateful messages he received after the game, expressing his frustration over the persistence of racism.
He wrote, “2025, stupidity and cruelty no longer hide… It’s not just football, it’s not just a ‘game’ when some believe that their skin color makes them superior to others. It’s time for things to change, for platforms to take action, and for everyone to take responsibility.”
In response, Chelsea issued a statement on their official website, expressing deep disappointment and outrage over the continued online abuse directed at their players.
“The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated,” the club declared, emphasizing its unwavering support for the French defender.
The club also assured fans that they would cooperate with the necessary authorities to track down those responsible and enforce strict action against them.
“We will work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action,” Chelsea’s statement added.
The incident followed Chelsea’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
A hard-fought London derby was decided in the 20th minute when Mikel Merino capitalized on Martin Ødegaard’s well-placed corner, securing the decisive goal for the Gunners.
