Chelsea secured their fourth consecutive victory with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brighton, despite a late scare following Reece James’ red card.
The Blues were comfortably leading 2-0 before James was sent off for kicking out at Joao Pedro.
This led to a tense finale, especially when Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton in the 98th minute. However, Chelsea held on to secure the three points.
The win propelled Chelsea to sixth place in the Premier League, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League.
Meanwhile, in a thrilling match at Old Trafford, Manchester United also kept their European qualification hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over Newcastle.
Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund played pivotal roles in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle, leveling them on points with the Magpies.
Kobbie Mainoo opened the scoring for Erik ten Hag’s side, but Anthony Gordon equalized early in the second half.
Amad then netted his debut Premier League goal from outside the box, and Hojlund, coming off the bench, extended the lead. Despite Lewis Hall’s late goal for Newcastle, goal difference is now the only thing separating them in seventh place.
With a seventh place finish in the Premier League, United who currently sit eighth behind Newcastle who edge them on goal difference, could secure a place in next season’s UEFA Conference League.
United will qualify for the Europa League if they win the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
