Tragedy struck in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, as a businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka, was reportedly assassinated by unidentified gunmen on Saturday evening.
According to The PUNCH, Awoyinka, a dealer in building materials, was shot dead near his residence, located opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area.
The attack occurred around 8:35 p.m., shortly after he returned from the mosque following the Taraweeh prayer, a voluntary prayer performed during Ramadan.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chilling sequence of events leading to his murder. A source from the community, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that Awoyinka was ambushed just as he was about to enter his home.
“He was assassinated moments after leaving the mosque. Some men dressed in white arrived on a motorcycle and lingered around the area,” the source explained. “As he approached his house, they emerged suddenly, shooting him at close range. He died on the spot.”
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ondo State Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that authorities had launched an investigation.
“We are aware of the incident, and an investigation is already underway,” Odunlami said.
