Borussia Dortmund secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Mainz on Sunday, snapping a two-game winless streak as they push to reclaim a Champions League spot with seven matches remaining.
Maximilian Beier was instrumental in the win, opening the scoring in the 39th minute by tapping in a Karim Adeyemi assist.
Just three minutes later, Emre Can extended Dortmund’s lead, heading home at the far post from a corner.
With one eye on their upcoming Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Barcelona on April 9, Dortmund remained in control and sealed the result in the 72nd minute when Beier struck again, this time with a well-placed header.
Mainz, who slipped to fourth place on 45 points, managed to pull one back through Paul Nebel four minutes later, but it was merely a consolation.
Dortmund’s win elevated them to 10th place with 38 points as they continue their push for a top-four finish, which guarantees automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League.
