An academic and former top government official, Shettima Mustafa OFR has died.
Mustafa served as Minister of Agriculture from 1990 to 1992, he was later appointed Minister of Defence by President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007.
He later served as Minister of Interior before being sacked under the administration of Acting President Goodluck Jonathan in March 2010.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Ret’d) expressed his condolences on Thursday, saying the late politician “leaves behind an indelible record of contribution to national development”.
In a statement by the president through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, noted that Mustafa was indomitable, full of life and insightful.
The statement read partially, “He had a strong belief in Nigeria’s strength and capabilities. He inspired many generations to believe in agriculture.”
The President also consoled the family, the government and the people of Borno State and Mustafa’s admirers.
Shettima Mustafa OFR had an early career in medicine, local administration and media. He also studied agriculture at university, eventually earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
