The Lagos State Police Command had on Tuesday invaded the residence of the embattled popular Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, in search of evidence.
The team of police officials, who carried out the operation, allegedly seized Kuti’s wife’s mobile phone during the raid.
Reports revealed that the team were said to have carried out the search, based on a search warrant, allegedly issued by the court, to search his residence.
A trending video on social media captured the moment, the police operatives searched the singer’s residence, at Akin Osiyemi, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, had ordered Kuti’s arrest, following a viral video, showing the moment he assaulted a police officer on the 3rd Mainland Bridge last Saturday.
However, he submitted himself to the police on Monday morning and was arrested and detained immediately.
The musician was taken to a Yaba magistrate court on Tuesday, with the police pleading 21 days of his detention from the court, for the police to conclude his investigation.
Meanwhile, the police were given 48 hours ultimatum by the court, to conclude whatever investigation they want to carry out, on the case.
However, the search was conducted on his residence, a few hours after Yaba Magistrate Court granted him bail on Tuesday.
Speaking on the search, the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundenyin, explained that the search warrant was issued by the court, based on the request by the police.
However, he revealed that certain suspicious things, which need to be defended, were discovered in the singer’s residence, during the search, noting that the investigation is still ongoing.
“In the course of our investigation, we stumbled on certain suspicious things that needed to be proven/disproved beyond a reasonable doubt.
“We, therefore, applied for and duly got a search warrant from the court, which we have executed. Investigation continues,” Hundenyin said.
