The acclaimed British author of fantasy novels and graphic novels, Neil Gaiman, has had his upcoming projects canceled by Dark Horse Comics following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The publisher, known for releasing works in Gaiman’s Anansi Boys series—a spin-off of his novel American Gods—announced its decision on Saturday via a post on X.
“Dark Horse takes seriously the allegations against Neil Gaiman and we are no longer publishing his works,” the statement read.
The company had been set to release a collected volume of the Anansi Boys comic series, which had already been adapted as a BBC Radio 4 show and a Prime Video TV series in 2022.
The allegations, made by eight women, include claims of sexual misconduct, with four of the women reportedly having spoken out previously.
In response, Gaiman, 64, has denied the accusations, stating on his blog, “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.”
The allegations were detailed in a New York Magazine cover story, which followed earlier accusations discussed in July 2024 on the podcast Master by Tortoise Media.
Among the claims, one woman alleged that Gaiman sexually assaulted her after inviting her to bathe in his garden. The women also claimed that certain BDSM activities took place without prior consent or discussion.
In response, a representative for Gaiman told Tortoise, “Sexual degradation, bondage, domination, sadism, and masochism may not be to everyone’s taste, but between consenting adults, BDSM is lawful.”
Gaiman addressed the allegations further on January 14, writing, “I’ve stayed quiet until now, both out of respect for the people who were sharing their stories and out of a desire not to draw even more attention to a lot of misinformation.” He admitted to being “careless with people’s hearts and feelings” but firmly rejected claims of abuse.
In New Zealand, a police report alleging sexual assault against Gaiman was filed in January 2023. However, the investigation was later dropped.
The fallout has affected several adaptations of Gaiman’s works. Prime Video’s Good Omens season three will now feature a single 90-minute episode, and Disney has paused production on its adaptation of The Graveyard Book.
