Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has advised Nigerians to stay humble when interacting with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force to avoid harassment.
Edochie said this in a tweet on Wednesday, after the Lagos State Police Command’s announced intention to sanction Afrobeat singer, BNXN.
Punch Metro reported that the singer claimed to have been assaulted by a policeman on Wednesday night, leading to a heated exchange.
The ‘Finesse’ crooner in retaliation reportedly spat in the face of the police officer, adding that he felt good after doing it, in a now-deleted tweet.
However, the Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said BNXN will be sanctioned for assaulting a police officer and if his allegations were also true, the officer involved in the act will be disciplined.
He shared this tested tip via his Twitter handle on Wednesday.
However, Edochie, although without directly referencing the singer’s altercation with the cop, advised that everyone should keep aside the ‘don’t you know me’ attitude when dealing with the police.
He added that the best of anyone is being a citizen and once you humble yourself, “na policemen go hail you pass.”
“I do road trips a lot, I’ve met so many policemen on the road & they’ve never harassed me before. The secret is humility. All that ‘don’t you know me’ attitude, keep it aside. You’re a citizen just like everyone else. Once you humble yourself na policemen go hail you pass,” Edochie tweeted.
