The Blackpink band has etched their name in the annals of history as the first-ever Korean band to headline a major UK music festival.
With an electrifying performance at London’s iconic BST Hyde Park, the K-pop girl group ignited the stage, leaving a sold-out crowd of 65,000 fans in awe.
BBC News reported that some enthusiasts journeyed halfway across the world to witness this historic event unfold.
A fan who traveled from the Philippines to the UK, Jeangil Pagunsan, exclaimed, “We’ve been waiting for this since last year. No words can explain the joy we feel right now. This night was so insane.”
Joined by her friend Rick Mae Vaporoso, Jeangil gushed, “We love everything about them. Everything was so hype.”
Adrian and Jess Chan, who embarked on an early morning pilgrimage from Nottingham to secure a prime spot in the audience, shared the sentiment. “Their songs are great, their personality is great, they’re really energizing,” they exclaimed.
Blackpink’s stature extends far beyond the confines of K-pop. They have solidified their status as one of the world’s biggest bands, transcending geographical boundaries.
Forged through a rigorous six-year-long boot camp, the group comprises the exceptional talents of Lisa (Lalisa Manobal) from Thailand, aged 26; Rosé (Roseanne Chaeyoung Park), also 26, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia; Jennie Kim, 27, hailing from South Korea; and Jisoo Kim, 28, from Gunpo, a town located approximately 20 miles south of Seoul.
Since their debut single “Whistle” reverberated across the airwaves in 2016, Blackpink has shattered records and captivated hearts worldwide.
They command the largest following on YouTube and stand as the first K-pop girl band to sell over a million albums.
Their latest masterpiece, “Born Pink,” triumphantly stormed the UK charts, claiming the coveted number one spot. Additionally, the quartet boasts an astounding combined following of 356 million on Instagram, solidifying their global influence.
