The Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, has appointed Professor Ediga Bede Agbo as its acting Vice Chancellor, following the suspension of the institution’s pioneer VC, Professor Innocent Ujah.
According to The PUNCH, the announcement was made in a statement by the university’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, James Onogwu, on Monday and shared with the press on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Agbo’s appointment was confirmed during a special Governing Council meeting held on October 17, 2024, under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Ohieku Salami.
“Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo,” the statement read. “This decision was reached at a special meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor.”
The statement further explained that Professor Ujah’s suspension was due to allegations of gross misconduct and insubordination to the Governing Council.
Ujah however declined to elaborate on the issue, noting, “The committee handling the matter will hear from me soon.”
Professor Agbo is expected to assume his role immediately as the university addresses the allegations against Ujah.
