A relative of the recently kidnapped leader of Kunav United Development Association, Emmanuel Yaji, has confessed to being the mastermind behind his abduction, intending to extort money from his own family, according to police reports.
Yaji was abducted on December 30, 2024, at his residence in Tsar Mbaduku, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when gunmen invaded a relaxation spot where he was spending time with friends and forcefully took him away.
Less than 24 hours after the abduction, the police rescued Yaji, killing one of the kidnappers and capturing another in the process.
In an update on Thursday, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Chief SP Catherine Anene, revealed that ongoing investigations led to the arrest of more suspects, including Teryima Yaji, a relative of the victim who confessed to organizing the operation.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Steve Yabanet, ordered a detailed investigation into the case, leading to the arrest of more gang members,” Anene disclosed.
“They include Teryima Yaji, a relative of the victim and the mastermind of the kidnapping, who confessed to planning the abduction to make money from his relative.
“Also, Terna Sule, a native doctor who prepared the gang for the operation and led them in the attack, was arrested,” she added.
Anene confirmed that all suspects would face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
