The President of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that he was not the one created the problems facing the country.
Isiguzo made this appeal on Tuesday during a special congress of the Abia State NUJ Council, in Umuahia.
He explained that since the election result and the Supreme Court have declared Tinubu as the duly elected President, Nigerians should support his administration and policies.
Isiguzo called on Nigerians to be patient and believe in the Tinubu administration.
“We must be patient, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not create the Problems we have in Nigeria. He is barely six months in office. And as citizens who believe in their own government, we must be patient with administration,” he said.
The NUJ president enjoined journalists in Nigeria stop writing or publishing materials that may destroy the country.
He admonished journalists to be professional in the discharge of their duties to avoid entering the dragnet of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Act.
He disclosed that writing or publishing of offensive articles may get a journalist into trouble, adding the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Act, though obnoxious, has not yet been repealed by the National Assembly.
Isiguzo said he recently secured the release of some journalists who were arrested in some states because of reports they wrote.
Lauding the NUJ leadership in Abia State for embracing peace, he pointed out that the national leadership of NUJ is setting up a National Media Complaint Commission, a co-regulatory body where an aggrieved person can report a journalist who published offensive material, instead of clamping such journalist in detention.
