Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí has solidified her legacy as one of the top players in women’s football by winning the Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year, adding the 2024 award to her 2023 win.
As FC Barcelona’s number 14, her consistent excellence has been instrumental in a remarkable era for Barça Women, who have now produced the Ballon d’Or winner for four straight seasons.
Bonmatí follows in the footsteps of her teammate Alexia Putellas, who won the prestigious award in both 2021 and 2022.
Bonmatí’s individual brilliance has mirrored the collective success of her team. During the 2023/24 season, she helped Barça Women secure an impressive quadruple, winning the Spanish Super Cup, the league, the Copa de la Reina, and the Champions League.
Her impact was seen in her 19 goals and 18 assists over 41 games, including a pivotal goal in the Champions League final victory against Lyon.
Under new coach Pere Romeu in the 2024/25 season, Bonmatí continues to be indispensable, with three goals and three assists in just seven games.
Her exceptional contributions highlight why she has become a two-time Ballon d’Or winner and an irreplaceable force in the Barça Women squad.
