Hansi Flick has landed in Barcelona to seal a two-year contract as the club’s new head coach, with an official announcement expected imminently.
Flick, who dined with Barca president Joan Laporta and the board last night, is set to be tasked with revitalizing the team and reclaiming the Liga title.
“Tomorrow we will make it official,” confirmed Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste to reporters.
Flick’s arrival follows a period of uncertainty over Barcelona’s managerial position for the upcoming season.
Xavi had initially planned to depart at the end of the campaign but reversed course, opting to see out his contract which was set to expire in 2025.
However, his tenure was cut short by controversial comments regarding the club’s financial situation, leading to his dismissal by Laporta.
Flick’s journey to Barcelona has been marked by significant achievements. He began his managerial career at Hoffenheim before serving as an assistant at RB Salzburg, Germany, and Bayern Munich.
His breakthrough came at Bayern, where he took over as head coach following Niko Kovac’s departure.
In his first season, he secured a historic treble, including the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League titles, followed by further successes before departing for the German national team in 2021.
Despite a promising start, Flick’s tenure with Germany ended on a sour note after a disappointing World Cup campaign and a series of poor results in 2023 led to his dismissal.
His appointment at Barcelona marks a fresh start for the accomplished coach, who will look to replicate his past successes and guide the team back to the pinnacle of European football.
