Sergino Dest has officially transferred from Barcelona to PSV Eindhoven after a successful loan spell.
The full-back, instrumental in PSV’s reclaiming of the Eredivisie title from Feyenoord last season, has now cemented his place at the club with a permanent deal.
This move marks the end of his four-year stint with Barcelona.
Barcelona’s announcement stated, “FC Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergino Dest. FC Barcelona retains a percentage of any future sale.”
In their own announcement, PSV celebrated, “Sergino Dest is and always will be PSV. The technically gifted full-back was rented from FC Barcelona last season. Now PSV takes him over permanently from the Catalans. Sergino signed a four-year contract on Saturday afternoon at PSV Campus De Herdgang.”
Dest expressed his enthusiasm to PSV’s media channels, “First of all, PSV believes in me and I am greatly appreciated here. I got to know the club as incredibly warm, like I have never experienced anywhere before. Those are important aspects for someone in my situation and give me confidence that I can rehabilitate well here. Once the time comes, it is very nice that the game we play here suits me. I’m really looking forward to getting minutes again, being important and grabbing titles.”
Despite a ruptured ACL announced by Dest in May, which initially cast doubt on the transfer, PSV opted to proceed with the signing.
PSV’s director of football, Earnest Stewart, commented on the situation, “We have discussed it well internally, but Sergino convinced us so much last season that we absolutely did not want to miss the opportunity to take him over permanently. He has so many qualities. The new situation doesn’t change that.
“He played an important role in the 25th national title. When he came over last year, I knew we were bringing in a very good player. He has proven that several times at the highest level. His arrival is a very good start to the transfer summer.”
